Potty Training Montessori

Offer the potty/toilet at times when the child normally pees, for eg, on waking, before going outside, after coming in from outside, after lunch/before nap etc. say “it’s time to use the toilet” rather than “do you want to go to the toilet?” (the answer will always be no) or “i think you need to go to the toilet” (the adult becomes involved).. In montessori circles, we prefer to say "toilet awareness" and "toilet learning" than potty training. why? as a matter of respect for the child. we don't train children (we train dogs and even training dogs make me uncomfortable). we guide children and we role-model.. Montessori uses distinct language with children learning to use the toilet, starting with the term "toilet learning" rather than "potty training." the difference may seem subtle, but reflects montessori's emphasis on the child's engagement and participation in the process, while "training" implies a more passive role..

I took some notes at the end of each day for our first five days of montessori potty training. here are my thoughts specific to our potty training efforts: day #1- that was exhausting. my daughter went pee three times in the toilet and about eight times on the floor, not including the one poo i had to clean up.. Potty training: just mention this word, and many parents of toddler cringe. numerous books have been written about the subject–including variations on potty training for boys and potty training for girls–and parents and educators hotly debate the right time and approach for children to transition out of diapers and learn to use the toilet..
